No Challenge For Challenger Touring

Long Range Automotive (LRA) has just released a new 135 litre rear auxiliary tank to suit Mitsubishi Challenger models from 2009 onwards, which will see this popular mid-sized 4WD travel further between fills.

The auxiliary tank nearly doubles the existing 70 litre fuel tank fitted as standard and takes the overall fuel load to over 200 litres to provide a brilliant touring range around Australia where fuel stops can be few and far between.

LRA’s MCHPBRA Challenger kit includes everything required to fit the new tank with minimal fuss. This auxiliary tank is manufactured from 2mm aluminised steel, etch primed and finished in silver hammertone enamel. The new Challenger auxiliary tank retails for $1760.00, including fitting and GST at LRA. This tank is fitted in place of the spare wheel so a wheel carrier will be required and is not included in the cost.

All of LRA's Long Range Fuel Tanks come with a 2-year Australia wide warranty. For more information contact LRA in Melbourne on Ph: (03) 9739 5667 or visit the website at www.longrangeautomotive.com.au

Interview with LRA

Interview Australia: Hi Anthony, it's great to finally meet you and to get out here and meet your team and to see your workshop and factory. Tell us about how Long Range Automotive (LRA) started and how it has grown?

Anthony Beimers: I first started building LRA replacement fuel tanks over 20 years ago. My brother Roger joined the business in 1989. We started off very small when we first started manufacturing replacement and auxiliary tanks for 4WDs to allow for greater distances to be travelled in the Aussie Outback where fuel was scarce.

Long range Fuel Tank Installation

PRESS RELEASE:
It’s a generally accepted fact that the only way to significantly increase your fuel range is to fit a long range fuel tank.

Yes, you can tweak your engine, and adjust your driving style to maximise your engine’s efficiency. However if you really want to travel further before stopping for fuel then a larger tank should be on your shopping list.

As an added bonus, they are often much better engineered and stronger than your standard tank and negate the need to carry bulky jerry cans which, unless they are able to be vented out of the cab, must be carried on the exterior of your vehicle which can mean a lot of weight right where you don’t want it.

While installation of a replacement fuel tank is certainly achievable by the average home mechanic, access to a hoist and other specialist equipment make it infinitely easier. A workshop will be able to do it quickly, neatly, and relatively inexpensively when you weigh up the time spent driving instead of lying under your truck.

We ducked down to Long Range Automotive in Lilydale and got the guys to show us how they go about building one of their replacement tanks for a diesel Toyota Troopy, and what exactly goes in to an installation.
